Woman crafting macrame wall hanging in a cozy, art-filled room
A woman enjoys making and creating her crafts in her studio.

As creatives, one of our main concerns is how to create artwork even when life gets in the way. The stress and cares of work, school, and family life can sometimes take a toll on us, leaving us with little time to create. In this article, we will discuss tackling this using a systematic, three-pronged approach.

  1. Prioritize- Commit to the act of developing your creative practice. Make time in your schedule to create when you are the most balanced and open to creative output. This time could be early in the morning or at night; pick a time when you are the most productive and imaginative.
  2. Create a System- Once you have chosen to prioritize your creative practice, it is now time to create a system by which you will create. You could focus on developing your techniques one step at a time, or you could focus on what subjects you will work on and at what pace. The mode you choose is up to you. Just find a system for creating that suits your inherent needs.
  3. Develop a Habit of Creating- As you begin to test the workings of the system that you have built, it is then time to make the process of creating a habit. Make room for issues along the way, but always try to keep the habit of creativity going.

With these approaches, you can find joy again and begin developing your craft. Want to find out more about how to begin the process of building a creative practice?
